How_to_make_an_e-book

Hello. I'm an online consultant. ❤
Today's theme is "How to make an e-book for sale on Amazon"!

Recently, e-books have become widespread, and the number of people around me who want to publish e-books has increased. Here is the question asked by such a person. I'd like to make an e-book, is it difficult?  It seems that the hurdle to "make an e-book" is somehow high.

This time, I will explain "how to make an e-book" when I actually published an e-book on Amazon. Please read this article and make an e-book for sale on Amazon!
Amazon allows you to sell Kindle e-books as well as paper books. What's more, you can write the contents of the book yourself and publish the e-book without going through the publisher. The mechanism is called "Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing". Since it is an e-book, there are no paper or labor costs, so you can publish books on a low budget. However, if you sell an e-book on "Amazon", the cost will be about your own labor cost and communication cost. It costs almost no money.

What's more, even though it cost to publish, the distribution network is limited depending on the publisher, and the bookstores lined up with great care can be put on the edge ... ( It may or may not have a track record ...)

In "Amazon", it is placed in "Amazon" in the same way as a celebrity book. In addition, since books can be sold at one of the world's leading online shops called "Amazon," it is no exaggeration to say that we have secured a sales network comparable to that of major publishers. "Amazon" means that you can publish e-books in a very blessed environment.

Making an e-book is surprisingly easy. You can make an e-book in just four steps.
There are four tasks to make an e-book.
  1. Write a sentence
  2. Make a table of contents
  3. Insert image
  4. Make a cover
With this alone, you can publish an e-book. Also, no special software is required to make an e-book. This time, the only software used is "Word". When you make a cover, you can also make it with "Paint" on Windows or "Preview" on Mac. If you want to stick to the cover design, it is common to make it with free software called "GIMP" or Adobe's "Photoshop" or "Illustrator". You can check how it is actually displayed on an e-book reader or app called "Kindle" with the software called "Kindle Previewer" distributed by "Amazon" for free.

Now, I would like to explain the actual process of making an e-book. If you are reading this article, I think you are thinking about publishing an e-book, so I think you have decided what you want to write to some extent. When publishing an e-book on "Amazon", please create content that does not infringe the law or copyright, and that complies with the "Amazon" guidelines. Please refer to the following for the "Amazon" guidelines.

To create an e-book, you need to create content and save it in the specified data format. The following eight data can be submitted to "Amazon Kindle".
  1. Word
  2. HTML
  3. MOBI
  4. EPUB
  5. Rich text format
  6. Plain text
  7. Adobe PDF
  8. Kindle Package Format
It's a format you've hardly heard other than Word, plain text, and PDF. This time, I would like to explain in the most familiar "Word". (I use an old software called "Office for Mac 2011". Sweat) Then, I will explain the procedure for creating sentences with "Word".

Now, let's format "Word" first.

Since the size and margins of e-books vary depending on the device (computer, tablet, e-book reader, etc.) that the purchaser sees, it does not make sense to have a perfect appearance on "Word". Therefore, set the margin to "None". Now, let's explain how to format.
  1. Select the heading part.
  2. With the heading selected, click Manage Styles in the upper right corner.
  3. Click Heading 1.
  4. Then right-click on "Heading 1" above.
  5. Click Change Style.
Now change the heading to your favorite style.
I made it.
   7. Apply the above style to all headings. This completes the heading settings in     "Word".

Next, set the table of contents.

The advantage of e-books is that you can add "links" that are not possible with paper books. It is a function unique to e-books that you can skip to somewhere by clicking a sentence.

Now, let's explain how to set the table of contents.

  1. Place the cursor in front of the first heading and click "Separator" in "Sentence Parts"
  2. Click Page Break.
  3. Next, click "Insert" in "Sentence Parts"
  4. Choose your favorite "table of contents" style. By the way, I chose "simple".
The table of contents is displayed. "Word" is very convenient because it automatically determines when you made a "heading" in the "heading settings" earlier and makes it a "table of contents".

  5. Delete the page number as it is not needed. This completes the table of contents settings in "Word".

Next, set a "hyperlink" for each heading in the "table of contents". By setting this "hyperlink", when you click the "headline" in the "table of contents", you can skip to the corresponding sentence.
  1. First, select the heading for which you want to set a "hyperlink".
  2. Click Insert on the menu bar.
  3. Click "Hyperlink" from the menu.
  4. Click "Documents" in the middle, then click "Jump to" at the bottom right.
  5. A pop-up will appear. Click "Heading".
  6. Select the "Heading" for which you want to set a "Hyperlink" and click "OK".
  7. Click OK when the link is entered.
This completes the hyperlink settings in the table of contents.

Next, insert the image.

  1. Place the cursor where you want to insert the image. At this time, it is recommended to insert a line break at the top and bottom of the imageClick "Insert Picture" in "Insert" in the upper right corner.
  2. Click Image from File.
  3. Select the image you want to insert and click OK.
I created an image called "photo.jpg" and inserted it into an e-book. This is the end of creating an e-book.

Finally, "save" and exit. Click Save in the upper left. Give it a name of your choice and "save" it. This time, I saved it with the file name "sample_book.docx". As a finishing touch to your e-book, first read through the entire book and proofread it. We recommend calibrating 2-3 times. After that, check with "Kindle Previewer" how it will actually be displayed in e-book readers and apps.

Please download "Kindle Previewer" For information on how to download "Kindle Previewer", see...

Let's check it with "Kindle Previewer".

  1. Launch "Kindle Previewer".
  2. The screen will appear, so drag and drop the e-book data. The data is read like this.
  3. The contents of the e-book will be displayed, so check the display.
You can check the display of various devices, so please try various things. This is the end of e-book content creation.

Next, create the cover of your e-book.

The size recommended by "Amazon" for making the cover of an e-book is
  • File format: JPEG or TIFF
  • Recommended size: 2,560px x 1,600px
  • Minimum size: 1,000px x 625px
  • Maximum file size: less than 50MB
This time, I easily created two types of cover data.

Mac "Preview" Created Cover
Cover created with Adobe's "Illustrator"
